I attended an event to help boarden my understanding of the discussions we were having within one of my Educational courses. In this critical reflection paper, I reflect on an event that I attended that was comprised of local post doctoral and doctoral students who were asked to share their experiences as students.
As professionals in any field, I believe that it is important to understand the population that you are working with-this includes their historical background and current cultural implications. In the above reading, you can take a look into an essay on the racial achievement gap.
I worked on an article review to look at ways in which instruction could be improved. This review reflects upon an intervention that can be used while working with inner city, underprivileged youth. Within this review, limitations of this intervention is also discussed.
Within any organization that works with youth, there can challenges either with the infrastructure, staff or youth. I worked directly with a youth for the course of three months and completed different techniques in order to best assist him. CLINICAL WORK
LITERACY WORK
I worked with a student regarding her literacy abilities. In order to do this, I assessed her current literal abilites and outlined techniques and goals to assist her with her literacy challenges. I think assessing where a youth currently is (in any aspect) can be helpful to in developing tools to help with their development.
ORGANIZATIONAL WORK
Within this essay I focused on my current organization and detailed an area that could be redeveloped in an effort to help the agency. The specific issue looks at the technical and adaptative challenge that are in place and outlines how it can be altered.
While working with colleagues, we developed an afterschool program to help underprivileged, low socioeconomic status youth. The program takes into account the context of some of the issues that may be influencing the positive educational development of youth.
While reading Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I reflected on how culture played a role in the book and the movie adaptation. My essay discusses my the variance of the two outlets and how they can be utilized to discuss senstive topics.
